This Isn’t Your Mom or Dad’s Library Any More!

Gale Cengage Corporation, a world leader in providing digital information to academic institutions, has recognized the Cuyahoga Falls High School Library Media Center internet site for excellence as a high school library page and it is now being used as a demo by their representatives for the states of Ohio and Kentucky.  The CFHS Library Media Center site is the access point to all digital information in the library providing students with access both at school and at home.  Online catalog, databases with full text articles, online encyclopedias, testing information and  formatted templates for research papers are just some examples of digital library access in this new information age.  Ellen Allerton, CFHS Library Media Specialist, said, “I was really pleased with how my page turned out but I was really honored that Gale/Cengage chose to use it as a demo”.
As we enter the second decade of the 21st century, we are surrounded by digital everything.  Smart Phones, iPads, Smart TV’s, Kindles, Nooks, incredibly thin computers that do everything and mini devices are all presenting us with information faster and in greater volume than ever before.  The library, formerly known for its access to books and information, is now the place for digital information and is commonly called the library media center. Students are required to have 21st Century Skills that prepare them for Career and College readiness and Digital Literacy skills enabling students to effectively and critically navigate, evaluate and create information using a range of digital technologies.
An online card catalog is now used to access all print books, ebooks and library holdings; the World Book Encyclopedia is now available online as a database along with many other specialized indexes that offer full text articles.  Library Media Centers serve all students at all grade levels and backgrounds in addition to all teachers, staff and administrators.  www.cfalls.org, click high school, click library.

Library Media Center Page Honored

Hello All

I just wanted to let you know that Gale/Cengage support called me to tell me that not only were my usage statistics going up but that my Library Media Center Page continues to be used across all of Ohio and Kentucky as their demo for an excellent High School Library Media Center Site.  I was really pleased with how my page turned out but I was really honored that this company chose to use it as a demo.
